Materials Science Symposium 2025

Materials Science Symposium 2025

Ecocem unites experts to drive faster deployment of low-carbon cement.

The Ecocem Materials Science Symposium took place in Paris on 18–20 Nov 2025, where we convened leading academics, materials scientists, and industry partners from around the world to share the latest research and developments in low-carbon cement technologies with the aim of accelerating their deployment. Participants discussed progress in current research, future priorities, and the need for deeper collaboration between science, policy, and industry in order to close the gap between technical feasibility and large-scale industrialisation.

The industry has reached a pivotal moment with advances in low-carbon cement science. If we take the right action now, the cement industry can decarbonise by 2040, ten years ahead of schedule, without excessive cost and without carbon capture.

Global Materials Science Advisory Council

Our Advisory Council
At the conclusion of the event, our Founder and Group Managing Director, Donal O’Riain, announced the establishment of our Materials Science Advisory Council to support the global development and adoption of low-carbon cement solutions.

Comprising eleven of the world’s leading materials scientists, the Council builds on Ecocem’s longstanding collaboration with experts whose work has helped develop our ACT technology, which reduces CO₂ emissions by 70% compared to traditional cement.

To go further, we need the funding and commitment to deploy this technology at scale. We also need open, performance-based standards and better communication about SCMs - they’re scalable and can be used worldwide.
