HS2

share:
HS2 is Britain’s new high speed rail line being built from London to the North-West, with HS2 trains linking the biggest cities in Scotland, Manchester, Birmingham and London. Various low carbon Ecocem technologies are being employed throughout its construction.

Product used:

Ecocem GGBS

Carbon savings:

161,162.80 tonnes of CO2 in 5 years

Project Scope:

‍‍It is the largest infrastructure project in Europe and the most important economic and social regeneration project in decades. Various low carbon Ecocem technologies are being employed throughout its construction.

With over 500km of line length (5 times the size of HS1) and requiring close to £90 billion in investments. The HS2 presents a double opportunity for Ecocem. Thanks to its strong UK network, Ecocem has secured direct supply contract with Eiffage (Central Section 1, 2 and 3), and indirect supply contracts (via Cemex) for Northern (N1) and Southern (S1 and 2) Sections.

Total GGBS required is 200,000 tonnes over five years. Similarly, the creation of the HS2 innovation fund will facilitate the introduction of Ecocem’s new high value technologies including alkali-activated, ultra-low carbon cement and shotcreting technology like Ecoshot.
