As we grow, supporting the development and wellbeing of our teams, living our values and maintaining our company culture remains essential as we continue to expand and deliver our mission. Teamwork is vital in each location and together as a group. Meeting in person is a great opportunity to develop relationships and for team building. Having fun together is important and challenging ourselves through various competitions and projects help bring that sense of fun to the team.
For the past four years at Ecocem, Pauline has put her Masters’ degree in Human Resources Management, and experience, into practice implementing the HR strategy for our team in France. Ecocem in France is the largest team in the Ecocem group so there is plenty to do, supporting the team and staying connected to colleagues.
Pauline enjoys the multi-faceted nature of her job and the opportunity to continually develop in her role. “I see many different subjects and I’m in constant contact with the team… Ecocem is a growing company, it’s expanding fast, and I like the fact that it’s dynamic and varied. If you put your mind to it, you’ll be able to develop your position and take on new tasks and responsibilities.”
Did you know a joëlette is a single-wheel all-terrain wheelchair that allows anyone with disabilities to go hiking. We were proud to collaborate with Nicolas Vigneron and Les Motivés de la Basket to provide a state-of-the-art joëlette for our passenger, Matéo.
At Ecocem Global we work not only for a better planet but also for inclusion and respect – values that are dear to us.
A new joelette in Ecocem Global colours took its 1st outing during the Trail Du Brou and again during Pink October (Octobre Rose) in France, where the colour pink appears in many villages and towns to raise awareness of breast cancer.
My name is Killian, a computer science student from IUT of Aix-Marseille, and I have recently completed an end of studies project and internship with the Health and Safety team at Ecocem, France.
Under the mentorship of Marion Guibert, the Group Head of Health and Safety, I developed a mobile application designed to facilitate the reporting of potential risks by teams, encourage proactive risk anticipation, and promote measures to mitigate those risks.
The internship provided me with substantial autonomy in programming, allowing me to translate Marion’s conceptual ideas into a practical, user-friendly, and secure application.
I received exceptional support from Ecocem’s teams and daily guidance from Marion. I also sought advice from my academic instructors for technical coding issues. This experience has solidified my desire to continue developing applications that simplify tasks in professional and personal settings.
The Grand Paris Express and Gothenburg Port extension are just two of the amazing projects that Senior Research and Development Scientist, Thomas Wattez, has supported since joining the Ecocem Global team five years ago.
During his time at the company, he’s seen how continued investment in the R&D team has fostered a confident cohort of young scientists.
He comments: “I love the team’s determination to develop and deliver new technologies that can decarbonise the construction industry.
As well as being a master of languages, being able to speak French, English and Italian, he has proved himself to be an expert manager of PhD students and R&D programmes for the business.
Since joining Ecocem in 2004, John’s career has developed significantly, encompassing various operational and technical roles. Currently, he is the Group Quality and Innovation Application Manager, leading the Quality Team and working on innovation projects.
He comments: “I am deeply committed to Ecocem’s mission to decarbonise the construction industry. This was a pioneering vision when I started, especially at a time when environmental concerns were not widely prioritised in construction. My enthusiasm lies in leading a multinational team and advancing concrete technology towards achieving Net Zero in construction.”
John concludes: “The culture, diversity of work, company growth, career progression opportunities, and the character of industry colleagues have been instrumental in my nearly two-decade tenure. Ecocem’s community support and dedication to solving global issues continue to motivate and energise me.”
I’m Jeremy Benvenutiv, and I recently had the opportunity to undertake my Engineering School end-of-studies internship at Ecocem. This provided me with an opportunity to combine the world of construction with my interest in ecological and environmental issues.
My work within Ecocem focused on the design of low carbon cement. Although I mainly worked independently, I was well supervised throughout my internship, whether by my mentor Diane Achard, or by the members of the laboratory. This allowed me to feel comfortable and equipped to carry out my research within the company.
I conducted research through various tests, attended and even participated in conferences with senior engineers which was formative; and engaged in the day-to-day activities within the laboratory. These six months at Ecocem have reinforced my convictions that it is possible to reduce our emissions sustainably and that we must do so at all costs.
Improving our environment is core to our business and raising awareness on biodiversity is essential. So working with Biodiversity in Schools was the perfect opportunity to partner and create a campaign too involve young people across Ireland in a competition to design a wall mural for their school that raised awareness of issues and integrates features to support local wildlife. The competition, with biodiversity prizes of €5,000 available, was open to pre-, primary, secondary, and homeschools in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Speaking about the partnership with Biodiversity in Schools, Chisom Ekomaru, Ecocem Group Sustainability Manager, said: “At Ecocem we recognise and understand the importance of biodiversity and the vital role it plays in the local areas in which we and our customers operate. We were very proud to support the Wildwalls campaign and took huge pleasure in the opportunity it gave children to let their imagination run wild thinking about the plants and insects they see around them. Creating natural havens on a wall is a great way to use space in the built environment and bring us all closer to nature.”
Mark Till, National Sales manager for Ecocem UK, recently took part in the CEO Sleepout UK, an event that collaborates with charities like Porchlight and the Amber Foundation to combat homelessness and poverty.
The CEO Sleepout is a unique initiative where business leaders spend a night outdoors to raise awareness and funds for those experiencing homelessness. It’s a nationwide event that has seen participation from executives across various cities, all committed to making a difference.
Mark comments: “The experience was incredibly challenging but eye-opening. It gave me a glimpse into the daily hardships faced by homeless individuals. The discomfort of spending just one night outside brought a new level of empathy for those who endure this everyday.”
