The Octagon is not just a first for Birmingham, it is the first octagonal residential high rise building in the world. Offering a mix of 370 spacious new Build to Rent (BtR) homes designed to excel in every way.
Various concrete mixes were used throughout this project with different levels of GGBS being specified for the binding, walls and columns. GGBS was used at 50% replacement levels to aid compliance with the onsite ground conditions/Sulfate resistance.
Construction of the skyscraper commenced in December 2021 and is expected to be completed by 2025. Standing at 155 meters, The Octagon surpasses the BT Tower’s 152 meters, claiming the title of Birmingham’s tallest building.
The project also benefited from the reduction in embodied carbon values of the concrete, where 1998.94 tco2e was saved by using GGBS. The equivalent of carbon absorbed by 90,860.91 mature trees.
