Hekla Tower

share:
Designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel, the future tower will rise to 220m and will contribute to rebalancing the La Défense skyline.

Product used:

Ecocem GGBS

Carbon savings:

7,000 tonnes of CO2

Project Scope:

Designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel, the future tower will rise to 220m and will contribute to rebalancing the La Défense skyline.‍

This high-rise building (IGH) has 48 levels, two lobby levels, six basement levels and ends with a planted terrace floor.‍

The ambition of the HEKLA Tower is to be awarded the highest levels of French and international environmental certifications with a quadruple certification including HQE (exceptional level targeted), BREEAM (excellent level targeted), LEED (Platinum level targeted) and EFFINERGIE+.

Ecocem solutions

Engineered concrete and performance concretes with 30% to 70% substitution of Ecocem GGBS, for concretes ranging from C30 to C100.‍

A 1,500m3 invert was poured in 16 hours in September 2019 which included 50% Ecocem GGBS. ‍The tower’s foundation beams in C100 are made with concrete including 70% Ecocem ground slag. ‍

The central core of the tower is engineered concrete with 40% Ecocem, pumped from the ground floor to a height of 200m. ‍The load bearing beams of the different levels are made with a concrete containing 50% Ecocem GGBS.

Environmental labels and increased strength

A reduction of 3,700 tonnes of CO2 was possible using engineered concretes for concretes ranging from C30 to C100 (optimized clinker substitution rates ranging from 30% to 70%).‍

Dosages with 70% Ecocem GGBS for C100 foundations provided increased resistance to long-term chemical attack.
