Our Innovation unit established in 2013, has evolved and become a leading centre of excellence on the development of new, high quality and low-carbon cements for a wide range of applications. Our world class innovation centre established in 2013, located in Paris and close to France’s largest research cluster is a leading centre of excellence on the development of new, high quality and low-carbon cements for a wide range of applications. We also operate two shared research laboratories with Ecole Normal Superieure (ENS) University of Paris Saclay and Toulouse University.
It is no exaggeration to say that our greatest strength is our people. 15% of our people work in our innovation team, more than any other cement business. Between them our team holds twenty PhDs in Materials Science, Civil Engineering, Physics and Chemistry, and we fund an additional eight PhDs at universities around the world.
Some of the world’s leading materials scientists have worked with us on the development of a range of low carbon applications and they continue to advise us on the development of next generation low carbon solutions.
We have developed and delivered to the markets in which we operate 20 million tonnes of low carbon cement in a range of formats, preventing 15 million tonnes of CO2 emissions from ever being produced, by reducing the need to burn limestone and by using alternative materials.
Our low carbon solutions are high performance, have strength and workability metrics in line with or superior to traditional cement, and are available without excessive cost.
